Naked turned 5 last Friday and we celebrated our birthday with our clients and industry friends. The highlight of the evening was the Photo Spoof that Adam and Paul MC built with their bare hands! What is a Photo Spoof I hear you ask? It's constructed like an old school photo booth, however instead of taking photos we had an artists draw peoples' caricatures. The luminous ultra-violet painted ping pong tables were a hit too!
Welcome back everyone – how does it feel to be in 2009? Did you know that every year you are alive, one year actually becomes a smaller fraction of your total life (ie. to a 4 year old one year is 25% of their life, to a 40 year old it’s only 1/40th of their life), so that feeling that life is speeding up isn’t just perception – it’s reality. For this reason alone I’ll keep this entry short. Happy 2009.

In our industry I seem to meet many intelligent, balanced, rational and 'presentable' individuals. Even in the creative department of many advertising agencies, the people charged with creating break-through ideas are, by and large, normal.
I'm not sure how we can inject more humanistic creativity into what we do, nor am I sure how we can empathise with our audience more. However, I am certain that a more diverse and stretchy talent base is a start.
There are so many industries out there where individuality is not tolerated - we should be celebrating and rewarding those we see as truly different.
May marketing be a sanctuary for all the freaky people in the world. A place where they feel they belong, contribute, and make some money too. - Adam

Ask a fishmonger what to have for dinner and he will suggest ‘fish’. Go to an advertising agency and ask what’s the solution to my problem and they will tell you ‘an ad’. As long as advertising agencies are financially dependent on production, you’ll continue to get ads as the solution.
Strategic planning is an increasingly important element of communications – we need to ensure, however, that strategists work in an environment that encourages them to do their job (assisting with strategy), not post-rationalise the next ad that pops out of the creative department. Execution is the servant of strategy, and agencies should be structured in a way that makes this possible to deliver on. - Adam
